Depending on your consultation, you may need anywhere between 6-12 treatments for optimum results. SHR Hair Reduction works by penetrating the top layer of the skin (epidermis) with a specific wavelength of light that targets the hair follicle on the dermis underneath effectively destroying the blood vessel that feeds the hair papillae by using controlled heat and light services during the growth stage, destroying or severely restricting its regrowth capacity, thus resulting in hair reduction. A series of specialised treatments are required to achieve long-lasting results.
Most conventional IPL laser hair removal technologies utilise massive amounts of heat to destroy hair follicles and ensure permanent reduction. On the other hand, SHR IPL Lasers fire multiple shots but at lower Joules. This new method gently heats the hair follicles producing a warm tingling sensation. A course of 6-8 treatments at four-week intervals is required to achieve optimal results. Hair reduction treatments at four weekly intervals will ensure that we are able to target the hair at the right time during the natural re-growth cycle. Is it safe?
SHR IPL Laser treatments have provided safe and effective permanent hair reduction for millions of people worldwide. Because SHR Lasers utilises fast motion and low-heat settings we can provide a level of safety, unlike any other laser hair removal procedure.
Will my hair ever grow back?
Actively growing hair that’s been treated with SHR should not grow back. Once a hair follicle is damaged, it cannot grow hair. However, hair follicles that were not in the active growth phase, will need to be treated. It’s also not unusual for some patients to have a touch-up two years after initial treatment due to hormonal changes.
Do I need to arrange time off work for treatments?
SHR IPL Laser treatments have no “downtime” and require no recovery time. You can have treatment and return to work and other normal activities immediately.
Why do I need 6+ treatments?
Hair growth occurs in 4 stages: Early Anagen (early hair growth), Anagen (active hair growth), Catagen (regression) and Telogen (resting, not growing). Laser hair removal only affects the Anagen stage (actively growing hair). Approximately twenty-five per cent of hair is removed with each treatment. Therefore several treatments are required for the treatment area to be hair free.

Electrolysis is a time-tested method that was invented more than 100 years ago to remove unwanted hair. Today’s medical electrolysis devices destroy the growth centre of the hair with an electric current. A very fine probe is gently inserted into the hair follicle at the surface of the skin. A very low electrical current then destroys the papillae, ending further hair growth and the hair is removed with tweezers.
This means that the hair is treated one at a time and is often the perfect solution to hair that can’t be treated by SHR or IPL. The areas mostly treated with Electrolysis are Lip, Chin, and Jawline:
