How skin needling works

Skin needling is a procedure that involves using a Skin Roller (a device which causes multiple microscopic puncture wounds to the dermis), causing the body’s natural wound healing response to stimulate collagen and elastin production. There are different sizes of Skin Rollers that are suited for at-home use and professional use.

Skin Needling / Skin Needling Mesotherapy is a safe, natural alternative to invasive cosmetic procedures. The Skin Needling process delivers massive vitamins, minerals & amino acids (anti-oxidants) directly into the skin to nourish, tighten, rejuvenate, promote the production of collagen and elastin and stimulate the metabolism. Rolling will dramatically increase the effectiveness of skin care products, allowing improved penetration of vitamins into the active layers of the skin.

Skin needling FAQ

What is skin needling?

Skin needling is a procedure that involves using a Skin Roller (a device which causes multiple microscopic puncture wounds to the dermis), causing the body’s natural wound healing response to stimulate collagen and elastin production. There are different sizes of Skin Roller which are suited for at home use and professional use.

Is it painful?

The home use Skin Roller may give very slight discomfort around sensitive areas such as the top of the lip, however, this size roller is extremely well tolerated. A professional salon treatment device uses a different size roller using slightly larger needles; this treatment usually requires topical numbing cream.

Can any skin type use this treatment?

Skin rolling is safe to use on all skin types and all skin colours. Skin needling is particularly suited to those with acne scarring, lines and wrinkles, sun damaged skin, loss of tone including elasticity and volume.

Skin needling is not recommended if you have used Roaccutane in the last 12 months, are pregnant or breastfeeding, have keloid scars, bruising, open skin or using certain forms of medication. Your skin therapist will be able to provide more information if required.

How many treatments are needed?

We recommend you start with 3 treatments and the number of treatments required after the initial 3 will depend on the individual’s response. Treatments should be 2 weeks apart.

How will my skin benefit?

These results will be greatly enhanced with the use of products such Skin Renew Serum and Skin Renew Cream. Some of the benefits of a complete treatment regimen include:
  • Skin texture changes and fine lines are visibly reduced
  • Increase in collagen and elastin fibres
  • Reduction in pore size
  • Overproduction of sebum is reduced
  • Normalisation of melanin production
  • Thickens and improves the appearance of thin, crepey skin
  • Reduces scarring such as acne, chicken pox and surgical scarring
  • Improves the appearance of stretch marks
You will be required to bring your personal skin roller with you for each session and it is recommended for gentle home use 2-3 times a week between treatments. Skin needling takes approximately 45 minutes to complete.
